Immune boosting turmeric & ginger shots recipe

Today’s post is something a little different and not necessarily travel related. Turns out there’s only so much travel content you can produce when in lockdown. So today I’ll be sharing my ginger shot recipes. To keep you healthy and give you something to do during these strange times.

After some research, I came up with the recipe below. You don’t need any fancy appliances, just a simple blender. My recipe is designed to boost your immune system with a concentrated mix of Vitamin C and anti-inflammatory benefits. Feel free to tweak the ratios and swap out citrus fruits to suit you.

Ginger shots are known to boost your immune system which, let’s face it, we could all use right now. After putting it off for way to long, I decided to just give it a go. If I wasn’t going to make them during lockdown when would I ever? I’m so happy with how they turned out and have been drinking them every morning without fail.

Ingredients:
Fresh ginger
Turmeric powder
Lemons, Lime & Orange
Freshly ground black pepper
Extra virgin olive oil

Aim for around half a cup of fresh ginger. The easiest way to prepare this is to use a potato peeler to peel off the skin and use a cheese grater instead of chopping. You can opt to keep the skin on, but I would advise you only to do that if you buy organic.

I opted for turmeric powder as I already had it in and couldn’t find any fresh turmeric. If you do manage to get your hands on fresh turmeric you can use the same technique as used to prepare the ginger. I use only 1/4 cup of the powder as its very dense, but would recommend probably 1/2 cup if you’re using fresh.

Juice your citrus to make blending easier, but throw in the pulp as well! I use three medium lemons, an orange and a lime. It’s completely up to you which citrus fruits you use as they’re all packed with vitamins. The shot of course had a very strong acidic flavor (as it’s meant to). If you want to make take the edge off a little just add some extra oranges!

Now for the pepper and olive oil. I know these probably don’t sound like they belong in this mix of citrus and spice, but just hear me out. These two ingredients help your body absorb the turmeric and vitamins better! Opt for freshly ground pepper and extra-virgin olive oil if you can.

That’s all the ingredients! Like I said before all you need for this is a blender. If you’re having any trouble blending it up just add a little more oil or some water. Pour your mix through a strainer and you’re done! I store my shots in glass bottles and jars in the fridge. The recipe above lasts me about a week, having a shot every single morning.

I’d definitely recommend giving this recipe a go! It’s fun to try something new and add it to your routine. We need our routines now more than ever. So, I hope you give it a shot (pun-intended).

Stay safe and stay healthy everyone! See you on my next post.
